"This evening we are delighted to welcome the distinguished Tate lecturer and guide Janeen Haythornthwaite as our guest speaker. Janeen will present a special online lecture, introducing us to the Cézanne exhibition at Tate Modern.
This autumn sees the opening of Tate Modern’s much anticipated show dedicated to the work of Paul Cézanne, billed as a “once-in-a-generation” exhibition of his paintings, watercolours and drawings. The exhibition will survey the whole of the artist’s career and will include a number of works shown in the UK for the first time. Cézanne moved to Paris from his native Provence in his twenties, seeking recognition and getting involved with the Impressionist group of artists. However, he was determined to develop his own style, resulting in extraordinary paintings of bathers, still lifes and landscapes that broke the rules and were to be hugely influential on the generations of artists that follow him.
