"The Flemish Baroque refers to art created in the Southern Netherlands under Spanish control during the 16th and 17th centuries... Antwerp emerged as the leading cultural nexus beginning in the first first decades of the 17th century. Prominent artists such as Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony Van Dyck, and Jacob Jordaens worked primarily in this coastal city. Stylistically the art which emerged from this area was confident, energetic, magnificent, and at times theatrical. This docent-led talk will explore the work of these painters and others, and highlight their contributions to genre, portrait, still life, and religious art..."
