Description from Art History in Focus:
"We are delighted to welcome guest speaker Dr Antonio Mazzotta who will present an online evening lecture exploring the work of Leonardo da Vinci’s best pupil: Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio. Boltraffio (ca. 1467–1516) is known as having been the most skilled pupil of Leonardo during the first Milanese sojourn of the Tuscan master (from 1482 until 1499). Boltraffio’s masterly skills, both in drawing and painting, led the courts and patrons of northern Italy to celebrate him as one of the best artists of his generation.
Dr Antonio Mazzotta studied Art History at the University of Milan and at the Courtauld Institute of Art, London. He is currently lecturer in the History of Art at the University of Milan. Dr Mazzotta worked as Curatorial Assistant at the National Gallery in 2008-2010, where he curated the exhibition Titian’s First Masterpiece: The Flight Into Egypt (2012). In 2018-2019 he curated an exhibition at the Castello Sforzesco (Milan) exploring the origins of the iconography of Michelangelo's Pietà (Vesperbild: Alle origini delle Pietà di Michelangelo). Dr Mazzotta's main research topics are Venetian and Lombard art of the Renaissance, and the history of collecting. His many scholarly publications are viewable at: https://unimi.academia.edu/AntonioMazzotta.
Dr Mazzotta has led a number of livestream tours for Art History in Focus, including broadcasts from the Pinacoteca di Brera, the Castello Sforzesco, the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum and the Portinari Chapel. We are delighted to welcome him once more this evening.
This is a live-streamed, interactive lecture which will be given at 6.00pm (UK time). Tune in from anywhere in the world to watch or enjoy a recorded version of the lecture which can be accessed for up to 2 days afterwards. It will last approximately one hour including Q&A. For those who are unable to participate live, you will automatically be sent a recording soon after the end of the session. Please note, the recording is only available to those who have not been able to participate live, and it is not possible to purchase a recording after booking has closed. Bookings close the day before the event is streamed."
